John F. Phillips and Laura Jones, co-founders of The Baldwin St. Gallery of Photography, 1970.
The Baldwin Street Gallery is host to the main archive of 1960′s and 70′s photography taken by John F. Phillips (Oct. 17, 1945 – Jan. 2, 2010) and Laura Jones. From 1969 to 1979 John and Laura owned and operated The Baldwin St. Gallery of Photography at 23 Baldwin St. in Toronto, ON, Canada. Previous to that both John and Laura had been photographers involved in the Civil Rights Movement. The current manifestation of the gallery is an online resource for licensing rights and prints from the collection.
On this site you will find photos of Martin Luther King Jr.‘s march in Selma Alabama,the James Meredith March and the Poor People’s campaign in Washington D.C., 1968. You will also find photos from Music Festivals such asĀ Woodstock, Strawberry Fields and Mariposa and images of Toronto History such as The Old Don Jail, Rochdale College, The Baldwin Street Village and more.
